My grandmother, mother, daughter and TIA have always had the best cozy, comfortable beds when we have stayed in their homes. My are this too.
If I have a guest, I try to make my guest beds as comfortable, friendly and nice as possible. I always make sure they are clean and fresh. Leaves hang out if I have the opportunity and is not winter.

First of all clean is the most important. First wash your bedding. Use tide because my family always has used, but use what you have. All soaps clothes smell good now, without fabric softener. I think softener leaves one feeling on leaves and covers up sharpness. Tumble dry, but if you have a line of clothing is best to hang out. Its leaves have a cool fresh smell to them.
